So, how can you help us?
You can help by taking the liberty to edit any piece of information you deem to be incorrect on any building you find in the database. All building pages have an "edit building" link which makes available to you all of the data we have, ready for editing. Some information (such as "availabilities" and "comments"), requires a user account to make changes. All pertinent building information (structural, historical, celebrity, etc.), however, is editable by anyone, without user registration. That being said, we do encourage users to create an account.
Why do we encourage users to create an account?
Glad you asked. We encourage the creation of an account for multiple reasons. First and foremost, we believe as participants in this project, you deserve to build up some street cred. By creating an account, all of your contributions are counted on your user profile page. You may choose to display this cred publicly, or stay hidden like a ninja. That's totally up to you. In addition to that simple idea, users can message one another, post available apartments for rent or sale, note that a celebrity lives at an address, describe the historical information about a building... and in the future, much more.
So, what do i do now?
That's the spirit! you can start by searching for a building you live in, have lived in, your friends live/lived in, your mamma lives in... and make edits if our information is incorrect. That's a great start.
You can also keep your eyes peeled... if you're strolling through buildings in chinatown, and see a map result clearly on the upper east side, drill in to that building, click edit building info, and get to work.
